RE: Contacting Forum moderator

It's funny how I posted a topic regarding getting hold of the forum moderator on here almost TWO years ago now, and still NO reply from anyone taking care of this site or from Jackie Gleason Enterprises... if there is ANYONE out there monitoring this website, please answer us this; WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED?????... when they launched this website back on Jackie's birthday in 2008 it seemed like there were big plans on keeping the memory of Jackie Gleason alive on the Internet... but since a long time ago we haven't seen any latest developments... I guess if I want to see that I have to let my pants out every other day... lol...

I mean, COME ON!... what's the deal Jackie Gleason Enterprises?!... you got us all excited for nothing more than a BIG let down with this website... and BELIEVE ME, I'm NOT the only one that feels this way, AT ALL!... ask anyone who is a fan, and that has been coming to this website for any length of time... they ALL feel the SAME way... I KNOW it's true because we have this discussion on other message boards online related to Jackie Gleason and The Honeymooners...

anyway, I guess we're ALWAYS going to be in the dark with Jackie Gleason Enterprises... we just have to accept it as fans... it's just SO sad that they're letting his memory just dwindle away to nothing!... but I guess it doesn't matte because with or without this website, Jackie and ALL of his amazing work lives on inside of us die-hard fans forever...

RE: Recent find

Thanks for the input. The album I have seems to be a demo recording but the label is type written and is titled Silken Brass. I have researched but believe that what I have may have been the demo that was later released as Silk N Brass. Ebay and other sources have not turned up any information and I believe that is because this again was the demo that was never released. I will try to contact Capitol Records which is the label but the only number on the label is a project number 31-5222. thanks for your input and help

The music of THE GREAT ONE

Many jazz fans do not realize that JG created much excellent jazz music - contrasting with lush, mellow string-laden mood music he is famous for, The Great One also made numerous jazz-big band style albums, featuring the top jazz musicians of the day as soloists, that are lively and energetic! My favorite is Riff Jazz. Others include Silk and Brass, Lazy Lively Love, and Velvet brass. I am a broadcaster and I air a 3 hour weekend jazz show. Naturally, each show has a generous offering of jazz selections from The Great One Himself!!!

Did you try contacting Capital Records - EMI, or whatever they call it now? They may be of help. Did you mean "Silk 'n' Brass" (Capital SW 2409, 1966)? This could be a very valuable disc! Also try some of the collectible vinyl stores, found through ebay and elsewhere for their input. good luck in your search for info. -WWJGD

Recent find

Looking for information or help. I recently came across a master recording vinyl lp which has the makings that it was a preliminary recording before the album was released. It is date 1964 Jackie Gleason Silken Brass. the label on the album was type written. There is no cover and I have been told that what I have was a Master Recording and in deed has a project number on the label. From my research it seems to be the master/project recording for the album that was later released as Silk N Brass in 1965, I believe.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

RE: Help! The Jackie Gleason Show 1962-1965

Hi! (Smiles)

I have two suggestions, which are as follows:

1. Go to this link and look for DVD order information.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055682/

2. Contact the Columbia Broadcasting Corporation (CBS), which owns the rights to the show, directly and find out if they released or plan to release the DVD you're interested in. If it has been released they'll inform of where you can purchase it.

Good luck!

Hi Chuck: I share your enthusiasm and excitement for the Honeymooners. To think the guy never rehearsed and just went on stage and made it happen the way he did, was a amazing.

I find your wanting to write a book about him interesting. I may be able to help you. I worked with a guy who was Jackie's personal accountant & trusted confidant for 30 years. he's a great guy and full of Jackie stroies and memories.

I have not spoken to him in years but can certainly contact him and see if he would speak to you. If thats of interest to you, let me know.

Additional DuMont Honeymooners Information

While doing research, I came upon Harry Crane's papers at the UCLA archives. Crane wrote for Gleason while he was on DuMont, and included in the collection are many "Honeymooners" scripts. Many of these have dates - some do not - but using the dates given and the known air dates of shows when Gleason hosted, I believe we have no information on previously unknown or undocumented "Honeymooners" sketches.

Below is a link to the thread about this on the sitcomsonline.com website. Any thoughts, suggestions, comments? Can someone from Gleason Enterprises offer any additional information?

I'm in the UK, a fairly recent convert to JGs humour, last few years I've become a huge fan thanks to The Honeymooners available on DVD. I've managed to pick up a few Gleason documentaries on DVD also from the US, but I would really love to find more Joe The Bartender apart from the clips in the documentaries... are there any official releases featuring this character, or can someone tell me which shows I should be looking out for, to find his contributions? I have a few sources now of rare old American TV shows but I'm not sure what shows I should be looking for in the Gleason era. Any help much appreciated. Many thanks, Alyn.

Speaking of locating some old shows: does anyone have a good quality recording of the re-discovered "Love Letter" episode that was found around 2004? I know that shortly after it was found, TV Land aired it. I missed that broadcast and have never seen it, except for a really poor quality version that someone posted on You Tube.

Thanks Gannooch. I have found them along with the 1957 trip to Europe episodes. I am still missing "The New Bowling Ball", "Bus Accident" aka "Sprained Thumb," "Love Letter," "Halloween Party for the Boss" and the other known lost episodes.
